Dr. Vipul Nanda answers frequently asked questions by medical tourists, offering his valuable perspectives to enhance the understanding of plastic surgery in India.
I am committed to continuing education and regularly attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to stay abreast of the latest advancements in plastic surgery. Having been a faculty at PGIMER, Chandigarh, I am also involved in the dissemination of training. Additionally, I am actively involved in professional organizations where I collaborate with peers and share best practices.
Ensuring patient safety during surgery is paramount in my practice as a plastic surgeon. I implement a comprehensive approach that encompasses several key elements:
Pre-operative Assessment: Before surgery, I conduct a thorough pre-operative assessment of each patient, including their medical history, current medications, allergies, and any pre-existing conditions. This helps me identify and mitigate any potential risks that could impact the safety of the procedure.
I believe in empowering patients with knowledge about their procedure and what to expect before, during, and after surgery. This includes discussing the specific risks and benefits associated with the procedure, as well as any alternative treatment options available.
For this, we have detailed consultation(s) with the patients, which also ensures that we are on the same page in terms of the expected outcome. I believe in being very honest with my patients and we educate them about the pros and cons of the surgery and the realistic expectation they can have from the procedure.
Team Collaboration: Patient safety is a team effort, and I work closely with a highly trained surgical team consisting of nurses, anaesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals. We maintain clear communication and coordination throughout the surgical process to ensure a seamless and safe experience for the patient.
Continuous Monitoring: During and after surgery, patients are continuously monitored to track vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and depth of anaesthesia. This allows us to promptly identify and address any deviations from normal parameters and intervene if necessary.
Post-operative Care: Patient safety extends beyond the operating room, and we provide thorough post-operative care and follow-up to monitor recovery progress and address any concerns or complications that may arise. This includes providing clear instructions for wound care, pain management, and activity restrictions.
By implementing these rigorous safety protocols and prioritizing open communication with patients, we strive to create a safe and supportive environment where patients can undergo plastic surgery with confidence and peace of mind.
I would rather answer it as how we ensure that no serious complications happen as I strongly believe that anticipatory action mitigates the need for remediation, and over a career spanning more than 3 decades, this has worked really well for me. The first thing is patient selection. We are extremely careful while selecting our patients and make sure that the patient is in good overall health, has a healthy BMI, and has realistic expectations from surgery. Next we like to adhere to safety protocols mentioned previously, including but not limited to the extent of surgery.
Having said that, all surgeries involve some amount of risk and handling any potential complications after the initial procedure is a critical aspect of patient care. We approach this with a proactive and patient-centred mindset, ensuring that each patient receives the support and attention they need throughout their surgical journey.
First and foremost, we prioritize open and transparent communication with our patients. We encourage them to contact us immediately if they experience any unexpected symptoms or concerns following their procedure. This allows us to address issues promptly and effectively. For International patients, we make sure that they stay in India for at least a week to 10 days following their surgery. We have regular follows up with the patient during this acute phase to assess recovery.
Even after the patients go back home, we stay in touch with them and advise them, as need be.
During a consultation with me as a board-certified plastic surgeon, patients can expect a personalized and comprehensive experience focused on understanding their unique goals, addressing their concerns, and providing expert guidance on their journey toward achieving their desired aesthetic outcomes.
We start the consultation by engaging in a meaningful conversation with the patient to understand their specific aesthetic goals and motivations for seeking plastic surgery. We encourage patients to openly express their desires and concerns.
We conduct a thorough evaluation of the patient's medical history, current health status, and anatomical features relevant to the desired procedure. Based on the patient's goals, anatomy, and medical history, I discuss the recommended procedures, potential surgical approaches, and any complementary treatments or enhancements that may enhance the overall result.
We encourage patients to ask questions and express any concerns they may have about the procedure, recovery process, or any other aspect of their treatment plan.
Yes, undergoing multiple procedures simultaneously, often referred to as a combination, for example, the "mommy makeover" procedure, is common in plastic surgery. However, whether it's advisable for you, depends on various factors such as your overall health, the extent of the procedures, and your body's ability to handle the stress of multiple surgeries at once. During your consultation, we will assess your situation and discuss the safest and most effective approach to achieving your desired results.
Yes, there are many non-surgical options available for patients who may not be ready for, or not interested in undergoing invasive surgery. For example, non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments like Botox, dermal fillers, mesotherapy, and chemical peels can help address wrinkles, volume loss, and skin texture issues without the need for surgery.
Additionally, non-surgical body contouring treatments such as CoolSculpting offer alternatives to traditional liposuction for targeted fat reduction. During your consultation, we will discuss your goals and preferences to determine the most suitable treatment options for you.
Traveling abroad for medical reasons may be challenging. With our experience of over a decade and working with the best surgeons and top hospitals in India, we help make your medical tour easier and safer for you. We will guide you at every step of the way and make end-to-end arrangements for your surgery, travel, and stay.
