A septorhinoplasty is an operation to correct your deviated nasal septum to improve your breathing (septoplasty) and also to improve the appearance of your nose (rhinoplasty). Unlike Rhinoplasty, which is a pure aesthetic procedure to improve the appearance of the nose, septorhinoplasty improves functionality of the nose by eliminating nasal blockage besides improving how your nose looks.
The surgery involves operating on the bones and cartilage that give your nose its shape and structure and making your septum straight. The septum is the cartilage and bone inside your nose that separates your nostrils.
If you are 18 or above, suffering from deviated nasal septum, have an overall good health, mentally and emotionally stable and have realistic expectations from the surgery, you may be a good candidate for septoplasty. If you are also concerned about the appearance of the nose, you can consult an expert plastic surgeon for septorhinoplasty.
Proper size and position of the implant is determined preoperatively.
An incision is placed on the inner portion of the knee in the natural crease. It passes through the underlying connective tissue and muscles. Then with the help of a blunt dissector an internal pocket is created to make space for the implant to be placed. The implant is then inserted.
Sutures are placed and dressed in compression bandages for proper healing and positioning.
During recovery, you will feel mild bruising, pain and discomfort which can be easily treated using pain medications. You will have splints placed into the nostrils which are to be worn for a couple of days after the procedure.
Your plastic surgeon would advise some precautions to be followed for a few days after the surgery, which include raising your head while sleeping, avoiding workout and contact sports, refraining from blowing your nose, taking care while pulling shirts over your head to get dressed etc.
You can expect to return to your daily activities after just a couple of days, and physical activities up to 4 weeks after the surgery.
You can expect great results if you have realistic expectations from septorhinoplasty. Not only can you have a better looking nose proportionate to your facial features, Septoplasty gives a much better quality of life, with improved breathing, better sleep and significantly reduced headaches.
We at IndiCure completely understand your concerns and it is always our endeavor to provide the best outcome for every patient. Following is the list of questions you must ask before you embark on your journey for Septorhinoplasty in India.
Prepare to answer questions about your:
Septorhinoplasty is quite a popular procedure among people in Mexico, Central and South America. Calf implant surgery is commonly performed in both men and women. Unfortunately, many orthopedic surgeons and family physicians who see patients with a deformed or hypoplastic leg are not aware that augmentation can be performed.
You will have some pain and bruising which will last for a few days after the procedure. Keep your legs elevated which will help reduce the swelling. You will feel heaviness in your legs for the first few days and walking will be a little difficult, which will improve during the second week and thereafter. You will be able to return to normal activities in about 2 weeks, while exercising and rigorous work will have to wait for at least 6-8 weeks.
Fat transfer to calves is an option for people with a good amount of fat available from the donor sites- viz. your abdomen, thighs, arms, hips or buttocks from where the fat can be harvested. The advantage of fat transfer is that your own body fat is being used, so there are nil chances of rejection or infection. But the results may not be as pronounced as implants and a touch up may be required.
You can discuss the pros and cons of both the procedures- fat transfer to calves vs Septorhinoplasty with your surgeon to make an informed decision.
Yes, you can run and do other exercises and work out after 8-10 weeks of the procedure or as directed by your surgeon.
